Just had a quick coffee date with the adorable Sparkles Ahoy to talk about her costume for the upcoming Miss Burlesque Australia! Won't give away any hints, but it's an adorable little number that will be a hit with all the boys!!

New Studio, New Look

I have to apologise for the lack of activity on this blog for the past year. I've been working on many theatre shows and even went back to uni, so time has become quite precious. I am now back to only creating costumes and burlesquing over the summer months, so activity will pick up on this blog. In the meantime - check out Missing James on Facebook and Maple Rose's Burlesque Website.

On another note - I finally have my own sewing studio! More and more corsets have been designed that they will start coming out of the wazoo!! Missing James is also taking custom orders for performers, so if you are in need of a costume, please contact me via Facebook.

Miss Maple Rose will be performing her "Elizabeth the First turns dominatrix" at 34B's Good Girls Gone Bad on September 14th. It's the epitome of good girls gone bad. The virgin queen turns into a sex pot. Wowza!

What's Next?

So, I guess some of you are wondering what's next on the cards for Miss Maple Rose and her designs? Well, next week on August 29th, Miss Maple will be headlining the Queen of Diamond's Edition of THE PEEL, debuting her new ELIZABETH I act.

Yes, that's right, the little red headed rocket will be impersonating the most famous red head in history, THE VIRGIN QUEEN.

The dress is going to be an act in itself - a modern take on the Elizabethan wide skirt and carrying a tea pot and cup.  Beautiful sequin black silk will adorn the bodice and thick red velvet will make up the skirt. These glamourous garments will slowly be peeled off to reveal the woman underneath.

Custom Corset for Brianna

Another custom corset done and posted! The lovely Brianna contacted me via my Etsy store to create a custom red corset for her red chiffon dress. She's had an idea for a red chiffon gown in mind for a while and came across my "Let Them Eat Cake" corset on Etsy and thought it would be perfect for the bodice of the design, only in red!

I sent her a few designs and we finally decided on a tudor style corset with a front panel with zig zag velvet ribbons and trimming with boning channels showing on the sides. The top of the corset was finished with ruffles to frame the face.

The fabric is a beautiful red silk tafetta, and silk flowers adorn the top of the front panel. Chiffon roses continue the ruffles along the top and red velvet ribbon creates the zig zag pattern on the front. A modesty panel was fitted into the back for comfort.

Missing James and Philippa Gregory

Recently I was designing a show at the New Theatre in Newtown (Entertaining Mr. Sloane), and the stage manager turned out to be a window dresser. To my surprise, she was incredibly interested in production design and asked to help out with the dressing of the set. I was so glad to have an extra set of hands and we hit it off.

A few weeks later she researched Missing James and found all the gorgeous costumes that are custom made. She contacted me and asked if I would be interested in helping her find costumes for the window dressing for Philippa Gregory's new book, The Kingmaker's Daugter, in the Dymocks on George Street. I was ecstatic! The opportunity to create and then get free advertising on George, win!

So, with my help, the window is now up. Missing James designed all the costumes but also made the Queen's. The gown is a sage brocade with a gold underlay and an adorable green velvet cape drapes over her shoulders. I feels so regal.
