Vote for Me!

Hi Y'all!
The lovely Lali from Lali's Fashion Steps has put Missing James on the voting ballot for the best blog in Mixture II in her "Show Me Your Blog" campaign. She told me in her comment on New Obsession.
Lali is a blogger from Germany who follows other blogs and updates on her purchases. She's pretty much a German version of me. She also sells things on her online shop - Lali's Fashion Shop.
Go and vote for Missing James for best blog in Mixture II  HERE!

New Obsession

I have a new obsession with high waisted briefs. They are absolutely amazing for an number of reasons.

1. They hold your tummy in if you're feeling bloated.
2. They give you a waist.
3. They cover your butt.
4. They're sexy.
5. They're sexy in the sense they are classic.

I have been buying vintage briefs and girdles on ebay (see stores vintagetreasuregirlboutique and purpledreamdesigner Treasure Emporium ) which are stunning because they are authentic and actually hold things.

I'm also obsessed with American Apparel's Nylon Spandex Stretch Floral Lace High-Waist Brief. They are affordable ($21.00 a pair!), and they come in colours that match bras I already own. Unfortunately, American Apparel is going through some financial problems and may end up closing down, so if you want these, get there FAST!

Another company that does great high waisted briefs is Bassoni Lingerie. They have a great high waisted brief that comes in black or nude and has control all through the belly and gives you a great waist. You can find Bassoni in many lingerie stores around Australia.

Glad to see the waist is coming back and muffin tops are disappearing slowly. Now, if only the leggings disappeared with the muffin tops, I'll be one happy camper. But I'll settle with high waisted leggings for now.

Tail Coat

I have been searching and searching for a jacket with tails for almost 10 years now. When I danced in the Nutcracker as the Nutcracker at 15-years-old, for the part of the nephew I wore this beautiful tail coat. I wanted it so badly! I almost walked out of the theatre with it. But alas, I had to give it back. Since then I've been searching for one and no luck. They're either all to big (for men) or too small (for little boys). Finally, Minty Meets Munt brought one in stock, copying Wheels and Doll Baby. It's adorable. I adore it!

Lace Maxi Skirt

I finally got around to finishing my lace maxi skirt and to do a photoshoot with my bunny ears. It's taken a while because of The Schelling Point, but I finally sat down in front of the TV with a few movies and finished sewing the skirt.

It was easy to do. I just bought a second hand lace table cloth from my favourite op shop. I measured my hips and cut the front panel starting from that measurement and v-ed out. The back panels are made up of the same measurements, but halved to create 2 pieces. Then I hand sewed it all together (the fabric was too delicate to sew by machine), made a waist band by folding many many times (I didn't want to cut off any length in case the lace would unravel). Then I threaded a black ribbon through and ta da!

Here are the photos from the shoot.

Tavi IS Nobody's Daughter

Found this short clip on Gary Pepper Vintage, and she commends Tavi for getting so far for such a young girl. Gary Pepper Vintage says this young girl is inspiring. She is, but she's also feeling around in the dark, making it up as she goes along.

I feel it's a bit scary that a 14-year-old little girl can have so much influence on the fashion industry. She's taking the spotlight away from people who've actually studied and practiced the fashion industry. Tavi should be commended. She's gone a long way for a wee one with pure talent. Natural talent. Congratulations Tavi?

Derelict

Y'all should know the AMAZING movie Zoolander, and the outrageous "Derelict" fashion show they put on in the end. Well, SIMON RASMUSSEN decided to do his own version (not inspired by the movie) for the Copenhagen fashion week. His was inspired by the street heroes (the homeless, the prostitutes, the crazy people, the ones, nobody want's to be around). Style Hurricane did an amazing post on the show, and SIMON RASMUSSEN even has photos on his own blog. You MUST check it out. There are leopard print shorts that are just to DIE for.

Next DIY project

Here's my next DIY project - after I finished the lace maxi skirt, the leather disc cardigan, the vintage doily cardigan, the blingin' headphones, etc. etc. I've been HORRIBLE! So sorry. My actual job (production design/making 60's dresses) has taken up all my time. But I'm back on the Missing James track.

So, my next project is this AWESOME sweater romper, inspired by Jeno Theo FW 2010 (Image taken from outsapop)

I think it's easily said than done, but you could just buy a big sweater and sew 2 sets of elastic circles in the bottom and sew up a crotch to create the legs. I think it'll be cute. I just wish I wasn't living in Australia where it's already getting warm in August (i.e. middle of "winter"). This outfit would be perfect for a Canadian winter, plus the 2 new coats I just bought on ebay (post will follow when they arrive).

I promise I'll update soon with either a post on new purchases or crafts.

I'm back. I promise.

Tiara!

I bought this Tiara party for myself and party for The Schelling Point. It arrived yesterday, and I was so excited that I put it on, put on the Nutcracker Suite, and danced my old Sugarplum Fairy solo in the living room. I had a grand ol' time. I'm thinking of bringing Tiara's back and wearing it normally, but it might be a bit over the top, and I already get weird looks in Cronulla.

DIY Fringe Shirt

This is probably the easiest DIY project I've posted. All you need is a plain t-shirt, some fringe from Lincraft and a sewing machine.

Step 1: Pin the fringe around the neckline of the t-shirt from shoulder to shoulder and cut off excess.

Step 2: Sew along the top edge of the fringe band and neckline.

Step 3: Sew along the bottom edge of the fringe band.

Step 4: Wear it.

The gold fringe was actually left over from the model box I made for "The Schelling Point." It's been sitting in my materials bin for a few months now and I always knew I was going to make a t-shirt with it, but never got around to it. Yesterday I was lost for something to wear, and since my sewing was already set up because I'm doing costumes, I decided to do it then and there. It literally took about 2 minutes to make. Easy Peasy.
